What Is A Gib-Guided Press?
Gib-guided presses, also known as straight-sided presses, are the frame style of choice for demanding applications where rigidity matters most. These presses offer the most precise and adjustable method for ram guidance, making them an ideal choice for use in applications such as blanking/punching, forging, deep-drawing, progressive die, or single station stamping. Both press types—hydraulic, and servo-electric—can be configured within a gib-guided frame.
How Do Gibs Work?
Gibs are precision press components that guide the reciprocating motion of the ram to maintain superior squareness and parallelism throughout the stroke. They are designed to fit tightly into a corresponding slot or channel in the press frame, creating a precise sliding surface for the ram. Because gibs are fully adjustable left-to-right as well as front-to-back, you’re guaranteed to maintain precise parallelism for the life of your press. Beckwood offers gib-guided press systems with either 4-point or 8-point gibs and self-lubricating, graphite-impregnated bronze wear strips to provide the most precise level of ram guidance and ease of maintenance.
